Objective 

This position offers an in-depth look at the workings of Shedd Aquarium’s Marketing operations.

Summary

The intern will gain a solid grounding in his/her marketing skills needed to understand and navigate website management, promotional copy creation and data analysis for a non-profit organization.  The intern will be involved in promoting Shedd’s programs, events and education opportunities online. There will also be exposure

to additional areas of Marketing including editorial, online communications and social media.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Demonstrate commitment to Shedd’s vision, mission and values
  • Participate in and assist with coordination of on and offsite promotional events, including public art installation and street team activation
  • Help with expanding upon the statistics reporting plan for web
  • Assist in keeping website up to date
  • Manage promotional material inventory
  • Other projects as assigned

Projects May Include

  • Assisting with web updates, email drafting/creation
  • Compiling advertising and sale analytics
  • Participating in marketing and web events (e.g. Facebook Live)
  • Researching best practices and current web/marketing trends.
  • Brainstorming ideas for monthly eNews updates and blog entries

Qualifications

Education: Enrolled as a junior or senior in an undergraduate program, or recent graduate.  Preferably, possesses either a BA in the area of Communications, English, Marketing, or Journalism, or academic progress toward a BA in these fields of study. 

Other Skills:
The Marketing and Promotions intern must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills and attention to detail.  They must be able to work and be productive independently, but also be a valuable member of the team.  A candidate must also think critically, creatively, be a self-starter, have a passion for digital engagement and possess excellent time-management skills.

Intern should be proficient with Microsoft Office, and Excel. Experience working with or knowledge of Google Analytics is preferred.

Time Commitment

Two to three days per week, averaging 20 hours weekly. The set schedule is based upon the intern availability.
