SUMMARY:
Shedd Aquarium’s Application Development team is searching for a Digital Product Manager who will collaborate with teams across the organization to understand the what and why of product and feature requests while helping bring alignment to overall product goals. The Digital Product Manager will manage projects, collect business and customer requirements to inform design and development and keep all stakeholders up-to-date with project progress and changes.  

With the support of the Director of Application Development, this individual will work closely with members of the Application Development team, as well as the Data, Infrastructure & Security Services and Design & Exhibits teams. The Digital Product Manager will lead discussions with these groups to determine potential solutions to stakeholder requests, and the feasibility of business requirements, and assist in establishing technical requirements. 

This individual will also help ensure our products leverage user experience and accessibility best practices. In addition, the Digital Product Manager will help test, and verify the design and development of a product or feature meets business and customer expectations. 
 
The Shedd digital product portfolio includes sheddaquarium.org (Shedd’s primary website), the Shedd Go mobile app, self-service ticketing kiosks, and exhibit interactives.

  • Demonstrate commitment to Shedd’s vision, mission, and values 
  • Communicate with stakeholders on key product considerations and help align and prioritize product vision, features, and roadmap 
  • Elicit, analyze, document, and validate stakeholders’ business requirements 
  • Collaborate with application developers and designers to define project scope and requirements 
  • Organize and document discussions around projects, ensuring all stakeholders and team members are kept up to date via project plans, meeting agendas, meeting minutes, status reports, etc. 
  • Translate business and customer requirements into clear and concise Jira tickets describing use cases, technical requirements, acceptance criteria, and other details 
  • Research and analyze data to inform and support product decisions; Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Objects and Key Results (OKRs) for products and ensure alignment with stakeholders and senior leadership 
  • Lead scrum ceremonies (i.e. daily standups, sprint planning, backlog refinement) 
  • Establish project plans, timelines, and roadmaps 
  • Identify and communicate project dependencies 
  • Ensure outcomes of product deliverables meet stakeholders’ requirements 
  • Support testing of product and feature development 
  • Play an active role in optimization and process improvements between partners across the organization 
  • Other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS:   

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education: Any combination of education and training equivalent to a bachelor's degree which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described.  

Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience as a product manager, project manager, product owner, or related field, as well as experience with the following:  

  • Working on software projects; Technical understanding of frontend vs. backend, APIs 
  • Strategically managing product roadmaps and prioritized backlogs 
  • Leading and supporting successful software projects  
  • Eliciting and documenting functional and technical requirements  
  • Influencing and negotiating with stakeholders  
  • Familiarity with agile/scrum methodologies 
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams 
  • Experience with Figma, JIRA
