Description
This is a 1-year temporary position with the potential for longer depending on business needs and individual performance.

SUMMARY:    The Exhibit Tech I inspects, repairs, retrofits, maintains, and cleans architectural details, signs, interactives, and other features of the public experience in the Aquarium.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.   • Demonstrate commitment to Shedd’s vision, mission, and values 
  • Maintain, fabricate, and install various exhibit and signage elements.  
  • Perform minor repairs on AV equipment associated with exhibits.  
  • Perform maintenance or repairs of stanchions and sign frames or other graphic carriers.  
  • Assist in monitoring and replacing lamps for exhibit lighting. 
  • Provide general assistance to other staff members for furniture moves, warehouse organization, and other duties as directed.  
  • Adhere to safety procedures and assist in assuring the safe use of the shop and tools by others. 
  • Keep storage areas clean and organized. 
  • Work with Fishes, Marine Mammals, and other clients in the aquarium 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Minimum High School Diploma and Trade School or equivalent experience. 

Experience:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of related maintenance, mechanical, or museum experience. 

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English fluently. 

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to understand basic mathematical relationships and formulas. 

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to work with little or no supervision. 
  • Ability to work within a team environment. 
  • Ability to use common sense techniques in solving problems. 
  • Ability to critically evaluate information for accuracy and usefulness in solving problems. 
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in a variety of situations. 

Computer Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to use Microsoft Outlook
