Summary
Researchers from Shedd’s Conservation Research Team have been collecting BRUVS footage from The Bahamas as part of the Global FinPrint project. Footage from BRUVS are analyzed for species identification and abundance. This data provides an important index of abundance for vulnerable species – like sharks and grouper. In 2019, with help from Shedd’s fabrication shop, Shedd researchers built and deployed a stereo-video BRUV system, which allows for measurements of any creature passing through the field of view of both cameras.
