PAY RATE: $21.00/hr. +
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Exhibit Technician inspects, repairs, retrofits, fabricates, maintains, and cleans architectural details, signs, and other features of the public experience in the Aquarium.

The Exhibit Technician inspects, repairs, retrofits, fabricates, maintains, and cleans architectural details, signs, and other features of the public experience in the Aquarium.

- Demonstrate commitment to Shedd’s vision, mission, and values
- Maintain, fabricate, and install various exhibit and signage elements.
- Perform repairs on AV equipment associated with exhibits.
- Perform maintenance or repairs of stanchions and sign frames or other graphic carriers.
- Assist in monitoring and replacing lamps for exhibit lighting.
- Provide general assistance to other staff members for furniture moves, warehouse organization, and other duties as directed.
- Adhere to safety procedures and assist in assuring the safe use of the shop and tools by others.
- Keep storage areas clean and organized.
- Assist with ordering materials
- Provide insight into material selection and innovative techniques where possible
- Work with Animal Care teams and other clients in the aquarium
- Fabricate and repair animal care items and upgrades for animal habitats
- Possess a strong commitment to customer service
Education:
- Minimum HS diploma, trade certificate, or equivalent experience.
- BA in a related field preferred
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in related maintenance, mechanical, or museum fields.
- Experience with a wide range of power and hand tools
- Knowledge of fabrication materials and techniques
- Understanding of basic mechanics
- Knowledge relevant to exhibit lighting
- Knowledge of electronics is a plus
