Internship Overview: 

In this internship, you will help develop our approach to recruiting diverse talent and shaping the partnerships that enable us to reach more communities and individuals. In addition, investigate training best practices that support diversity priorities for recruiting, interviewing and retaining employees.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of diversity initiatives in a non-profit setting.
  • Develop knowledge of industry best practices around analyzing and improving diversity within an organization.
  • Practice creating trainings to inform and advance diversity across all levels of an organization.

Responsibilities & Projects: 

  • Demonstrate commitment to Shedd’s vision, mission and values 
  • Partner with the Manager of HR to develop a deep understanding of the current state and needs with regards to diversity recruiting.  
  • Analyze recruiting processes to identify improvement opportunities related to diversity.  
  • In partnership with staff, establish and develop thoughtful partnerships with organizations focused on underrepresented talent.  
  • Assist with Monitoring recruiting and staff metrics, reporting back to Manager and Senior Vice President on determined KPIs.   
  • Research best practices for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to staff and candidate diversity.  
  • Work with Director of Training to develop and understanding of diversity training history and how to move training forward future focused. 
  • Research best practices and strategize on diversity training initiatives across the organization.  
  • Other projects as assigned 

Qualifications: 

Fields of Interest: 

  • Business, Communications, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related field  

Skills/Characteristics: 

  • A team player who is able to translate diversity and recruiting needs into actionable insights  
  • Ability to establish strong relationships   
  • A passion and persistence for improving the efficacy of diversity recruiting strategies and a solid understanding of its importance.   
  • Have a high school diploma or GED. 

Time & Compensation: 

  • This is a non-exempt, temporary position that pays $15.40 per hour
  • We anticipate this position will be scheduled for 24 hours per week for 10 weeks, pending business needs and individual performance.
  • Preferred schedule: Flexible within normal business hours, Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm.
  • Set schedule based on intern availability.
